Recycle, reuse and reduce
Recycling
At Norton Primary Academy the Eco Warriors have been committed to helping our planet by recycling. They had a discussion and came up with a list of things that we could do at school. We have a box that we can put our old batteries in to recycle.
At lunch times, the children put their empty crisp packets in a separate bag and at the end of each term Mrs Evans takes them to be recycled.
We have a clothes bank on site, where the children and parents in the community can bring in their unwanted clothes and shoes to recycle.
We also thought about paper and how much was being wasted, so we have a large white bag to recycle paper and in the classrooms. Children have a separate tray to put used paper in, so it is not put in the bin and wasted.
Eco Committee

Lincoln – “I chose to be an Eco Warrior because I want to help the world because if we did nothing about our planet it will start to fall apart and it will be our fault. I want to make it better now and forever.”
Jack – “I want to be an Eco Warrior because the world is dying from us and we need to stop these actions or the planet will not be good. The plants will die and more and more animals will be extinct.”
Dexter – “I want to be an Eco Warrior because I love the environment and wanted to help it. I enjoy litter picking and keeping our area tidy and I recycle. At our school we make sure we do our bit by turning off lights and recycling, and making sure our environment is not harmed.”
Charlie – “I want to be Eco Warrior because we save the planet from plastic pollution and we recycle.”
Hollie – “I wanted to be an Eco Warrior because I like helping nature and the planet.”
Aurora-Rose – “I wanted to be an Eco Warrior because I wanted to help the world.”
Theo – “I wanted to be an Eco Warrior because I wanted to help the world and save the animals.”
Energy

Following on from the school guidance around Energy, we discussed what we could do in our school to help reduce costs. As Eco Warriors, we make sure lights are turned off in classrooms when not in use, our teacher’s computers are off at the end of the day. We do not waste water by leaving taps running for a long time.
Litter Picking
The Eco Warriors are committed to keeping our school grounds clean and tidy. They take it in turns to carry out litter picking duties. They know the importance of looking after our environment and the wildlife that live in it and especially our local area. Every year, we take part in The Great British Spring Clean, where we help clean not only our school grounds but the wider community as well. Some of our children also do their own litter picking in their own areas.
