On June 5th 2019, all the pupils at Norton Primary Academy, sponsored by Northern Education Trust, collectively ran the 5k Race for Life in support of Cancer UK. The day was carefully planned by Miss Linton , PE lead across the school. Year 6 had the special responsibility to run with each class, and support the younger children who ran the shorter laps. They offered encouragement, and moral support to keep going and get across the finish line. Ella in Year 6 said: “So we all learnt that if you fail and don’t succeed the first time you just have to try and try again. ”

Our Year 6 pupils showed great skills of determination and resilience even though they were very tired by the end of the day. One of the unexpected outcomes from the day was that it also supported an incredible feeling of collaboration across school. By helping the other children, they felt proud that they had contributed to the success of the event. Emmie in Year 6 said: “The best part of the day for me was seeing that everyone enjoyed themselves and no one gave up.”

The total raised so far is over £850, and we are still awaiting the final total from all the sponsorship money, so expect a higher amount once all the money has been collected. We are incredibly proud to know that this money will go towards supporting this amazing charity that is helping so many people in the UK.
