Jubilee celebrations were in full swing across Stockton this week and if you happened to walk past this local primary school, you might have had to look twice! Welcoming the children into school was a life-size replica of Her Royal Highness, along with her corgis and a pair of bold beefeaters.

The fantastic sculpture of her majesty, in the grounds of Norton Primary Academy, had a robe showcasing photos from the decades of the Queen’s reign. The model was just one part of a whole host of activities organised to commemorate the jubilee. The art installation, which was designed and made by children and staff, also included a model of Buckingham Palace and a number 70, which was created using crowns made from recycled bottles to help promote reusing and recycling.

The green (and red, white and blue) theme continued when some very special visitors came from the Royal British Legion to plant a tree in the school garden as part of their “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” campaign. Representatives from the British Legion were able to join the school for an assembly where younger children re-enacted the coronation of the Queen before a whole school rendition of God Save the Queen.

The celebrations also included a Jubilee-themed summer fayre and a platinum picnic, where parents where able to join their children to have lunch in the sun. As a final longstanding tribute to the queen the school have also made a display for their art gallery using inspiration from stamps across the decades to create their own iconic designs.

Beverly Singleton, Vice Principal of Norton Primary Academy said: “The atmosphere during our jubilee week has been wonderful. The efforts from both staff and families has been incredible. It was fantastic to bring all parts of school together this week to honour the queen and make special memories.”
