Year 6 time travel back to the Industrial Revolution
Year 6 pupils visited Beamish Museum and experienced a Victorian school lesson. Behaviour was nothing less than exemplary (perhaps the threat of the cane or the strap helped!) Writing with a dip pen and ink was a new experience for all. It was strange not being able to rub out incorrect answers in the maths lesson.
Groups of pupils had a taste of life down the mine in the 1800s. It was cold, tight and extremely dark. Our pupils demonstrated sincere empathy for the children (some as young as 5) who would
have had to work down the mine, six days every week.
The ride on the old buses and trams was a further highlight of the visit. Volunteers at the museum, commented on the pupils’ wonderful manners and well thought questions. A perfect day where lost of memories were made.
